WFH chaos and the Women at Rise Run Retreat

Hello Friend,

As I sit down to write this, I realize June and July flew by. I'd chalked it up to adjusting to now owning this business and trying to create something wonderful, but turns out, time just moves quickly for me in the summer. I thought I'd give you a little look into my world as the new owner of Rise Run Retreat. Buckle up, it's going to be fancy… ;)

How many beverages is the correct number to stay both caffeinated and hydrated?

I haven't worked outside the home for a few years now. The last time I did, I was teaching toddlers in an outdoor Montessori classroom. Although the differences between that and running my own retreat company are many, the one I'm getting caught up on most is the working-from-home situation. I know many of you are well-adapted to the work-from-home schedule and routine. This is new for me. We don't have a designated guest room or home office, so generally I'm working from the dining room table. The beauty, as some of you already know, is that when you work from home, you can tackle a few things during those early morning hours before the house wakes up, or finish a project in the evening after the kitchen is closed. What I'm realizing, though, is that work happens a little here and a little there. Take today, for example: I had to finish up some marketing projects for an upcoming event and then tackle this newsletter. Between 9:30 and 11:30, I sat "working" uninterrupted for only about 20 minutes. It was the dog needing to go out, the laundry machine was going off, it was raining which meant setting up the sump pump in the basement and moving it around to where water was collecting most, then a phone call from an elderly family member. Phew! How do you all do it? What keeps me coming back to those early morning hours, and after the day is done, is the excitement I have of what Rise Run Retreat can become. I am truly so honored to be taking on this role and bringing you some amazing experiences.

Finally, I just shut things down and went for a run. Maybe that's the upside to working from home — you can just close your computer and walk out the door for some much-needed miles.

The good news is I'm finding my stride, and 2027 is looking like it's going to be a very exciting year for Rise Run Retreat. Building something new often means redefining who you are and what role you now play. Just like in my running, I'm practicing kindness and compassion, and remembering that learning new things is hard. When someone embarks on the journey to become a runner, it's not easy, and it doesn't come naturally for most. We show up, we're consistent, and we try, as best we can, to be kind to ourselves in the process. I'm learning the same is true of a new career, a new business, or trying something - anything - new.

The Woman Who Comes to Rise Run Retreat

When I think about Rise Run Retreat and what's ahead, I often think of the women who might be joining us. They tend to be positive, joyful, bringers of good vibes, while also lending a listening ear and emotional support to the group. The women of Rise Run Retreat are inclusive and unique; no one looks or moves quite like another, and not only is that okay, we celebrate and revel in it. Learning here is reciprocal. The women who come to Rise Run Retreat are curious and want to learn more: more about themselves, more about running, more about the world around them and how they fit into it. These women realize that running is more than exercise. It's our therapy, our time to heal, to process, to simply boss up and feel strong. The woman who comes to Rise Run Retreat is taking a huge step and investing in herself. She realizes that showing up to an event like this might mean stepping outside her comfort zone in some way and that's the beautiful part. That's where the growth happens. If you're wondering whether you're like any of these women, let me tell you: you are. You belong here.

Be the First to Know

Now for the good stuff. I'm really looking forward to this fall. Behind the scenes, I'm securing venues, reaching out to presenters (cross your fingers for me!), and talking with sponsors. The 2027 details will all be announced late fall. Here's where you come in: I'm launching something special - a VIP list, going live September 1st. VIP members will be the first to know about upcoming retreats, registration, member-only perks and pricing, and behind-the-scenes updates before anyone else. Yes, it requires clicking a link and signing up. But this won't be spam, and it won't just be a repeat of what you already get here. If you're even contemplating a Rise Run Retreat in 2027, you're going to want to be on this list.

Check us out on Instagram@rise.run.retreat  That’s still our primary mode of communication.  We are still building back and appreciate everyone who follows along, likes, comments and shares with friends.

Thank you for being here. As always, I'm here if you've got ideas for workshops, want to chat about running, life, or the mysterious WFH balancing act.

You Belong Here.
